7th Heaven Good things about 7th Heaven: Jessica Biel Oh, she's not on anymore. Okay, let's try this again. Good things about 7th Heaven: ................... Aaron Spelling created this wholesome, issue-oriented family drama about a pastor and his large family. Melrose Place, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels....7th Heaven. Which one doesn't belong? The problem with creating a show so unlike anything else on network TV (save for PAX) is that the drama seems totally forced. It's hard to be entertained when being hammered over the head with a different issue every week. I'm not saying issues shouldn't be addressed on TV, it's just that humorless, cloying drama is not the correct forum for it. "The Cosby Show" is the perfect example of how “issue episodes� can be seamlessly integrated into the fabric of an entertaining program. Comedies have the benefit of being able to entertain regardless of the nature of that week's given plot; an episode that deals with drugs can still contain a number of laughs. My belief is that a show like 7th Heaven does more harm than good. Parents encourage their children to watch it as a quasi-guide to growing up. The error in this logic is that the world of 7th Heaven is so far removed from the reality of adolesence that those kids insulated to "Heaven's" narrow views are in for a rude awakening once they enter the real world. Regardless, I can praise 7th Heaven for at least one thing: bringing Jessica Biel to the masses. Thank you, Aaron Spelling and rest in peace. -Oscar Dahl
