CW has announced that the long-running family drama, 7th Heaven, is going to close its curtains on May 13, 2007, at 8pm ET/PT with the finale episode entitled “And Away We Go.” The episode will be an hour long plot which will attempt to bring light to many loose ends.

This is the second time that 7th Heaven will attempt to wrap things up, after publicly announcing in 2005 that its tenth season would be its last due to the show’s high expenditures. In fact, the series finale was scheduled for May 8, 2006. However, the program was saved and renewed by the CW network, which is its current home, for an eleventh season.

Created by Brenda Hampton, 7th Heaven premiered in 1996 on the WB. The series centers on a particular Protestant family, which consists of Reverend Eric Camden (Stephen Collins), wife Annie (Catherine Hicks), and their children Matt (Barry Watson), Simon (David Gallagher), Lucy Camden-Kinkirk (Beverley Mitchell), Ruthie Camden (Mackenzie Rosman), Sam Camden (Nikolas Brino), David Camden (Lorenzo Brino). Each episode generally deals with a controversial theme that the family deals with and typically ends with a moral lesson.

As of the moment, there are no other details on the show’s cancellation, given that 7th Heaven is averaging 3.4 million total viewers, as well as a 1.3 rating in CW’s target network demo of adults 18-34.

With the show coming to an end, ardent viewers will just have to relive the family drama on DVD. Seasons 1-4 have already been released on the market, while seasons 5 onwards are still waiting for a release schedule. Meanwhile, avid fans can still savor the rest of 7th Heaven’s season eleven every Sundays at 8:00 ET/PT.
