Salma Hayek, the first Mexican national to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, is headed over to
30 Rock. The 42-year-old actress was last seen playing Sofia Reyes on the ABC comedy
Ugly Betty, where she also serves as producer. Soon, she'll be gracing the NBC sitcom that deals with life behind the camera of the fictional live sketch comedy series,
The Girlie Show with Tracy Jordan.
Evidently,
Tina Fey, who plays head writer of
TGS with Tracy Jordan, Liz Lemon, and serves as the executive producer of
30 Rock, was so desperate to get Hayek on the show that she called her personally to invite her to come on board. While a rep for Hayek declined to comment,
The New York Post reports that she has signed on to appear for two episodes and that she won't be playing herself but will star as a character.
Hayek joins a long list of guest stars on
30 Rock, including
Edie Falco, Jerry Seinfeld,
Friends alum
Jennifer Aniston,
Gossip Girls'
Blake Lively and
Leighton Meester, and multiple Emmy Award winner Oprah Winfrey.
Aside from
Ugly Betty, Hayek has also appeared on TV shows such as
Saturday Night Live, Roadracers, The Sinbad Show and Spanish telenovelas like U
n Nuevo Amanecer and
El Vuelo del Águila. On the big screen, she is credited for
Frida, Desperado, Fools Rush In, and
Once Upon a Time in Mexico, just to name a few.
In addition to
30 Rock, which returns for its third season on October 30 on NBC, Hayek has also been cast in the upcoming thriller
Cirque du Freak, a movie about a young boy who is forced to leave his normal life and go on the road with the Cirque Du Freak to become a vampire. Hayek stars as Madame Truska, joining other cast members consisting of Josh Hutcherson, Chris Massoglia, and Willem Dafoe, among others.
