As the Christmas spirit takes over the sixth episode of season 3, Liz (Tina Fey
) finds her self all alone for the holiday when, only days before Chirstmas, her parents decide to ditch her to celebrate the holidays at a couples-only retreat. As an alternative, she participates in a charity program called “Letters to Santa” in attempt to fulfill the Christmas wishes of underprivileged kids.
Meanwhile, Liz isn't the only one who has to take a detour. Jack (Alec Baldwin
) plans a dream holiday away from his overbearing mother but his vacation gets foiled when he gets caught in a freak accident. To make things worse, Jack takes his frustration out on the TGS
staff, forcing them to give up their plans to produce a Christmas special at the last minute.
Joining the cast of 30 Rock
in “Christmas Special” is Elaine Stritch, who guest stars as Jack's domineering mother Colleen. The 82-year-old actress is known for her trademark performance of The Ladies Who Lunch
in Company and her one-woman show, Elaine Stritch at Liberty. On 30 Rock
, her character was first introduced in the episode “Hiatus,” which aired on April 26, 2007 where she visited Jack who ended up in the hospital. She was last seen on December 13, 2007 in the episode called “Ludachristmas” where Jack got attached to Liz's nurturing parents because they provide the love and support he never got from his mom.
