Michael Shanks, actor known for his role as Dr. Daniel Jackson on the science fiction series
Stargate SG-1, will guest star on the action-thriller series
24 starting on its Day 6 1:00AM-2:00AM episode on Monday, April 30 at 9/8C on Fox.
Shanks will play Mark Bishop, a political lobbyist who has a secret relationship with Vice President Noah Daniels’ aide Lisa Miller, played by Kari Matchett. The Canadian actor is scheduled to appear in a 4-episode arc for season 6. (Warning: minor spoilers ahead!)

Although Shanks has been very preoccupied with
24, even missing some shooting scenes for the Stargate: Continuum DVD, he hasn’t actually done any scenes with the lead character, counter terrorist agent Jack Bauer, played by
Kiefer Sutherland. Shanks explained, “We never even worked on the same day…I don't get anywhere near Jack Bauer, so I don't get killed. Even if you're a good guy, it's dangerous to be on that side of the story."
Naturally, Shanks can only say little about what can be expected on his 4-arc appearance. But one thing he can hint on is his love scene with Matchett, which rarely happens on the plot of
24. He said, "I'm not saying where or when. I'm just saying there was a little bit of sexy stuff, which is unusual for
24. A show like that doesn't really have time for it. What's funny about it, the crew, they were quite bashful at times about what we were filming… Somebody came over and articulated, `Sorry if people are kind of giggly around here. We're used to chain-sawing people's heads off and cutting fingers off and torture scenes, that's the day-to-day for us. But the sex thing has us all acting like teenagers.'"
Shanks, a 36-year old native of Vancouver, British Columbia, studied fine arts at the University of British Columbia. Prior to role on
Stargate SG-1, he appeared in several stage productions and made a number of guest appearances for shows like
Highlander, University Hospital, The Outer Limits and
A Family Divided.
