Morris O'Brian
Born in London, actor Carlo Rota spent most of his childhood moving from one country to another. He lived in Italy, Hong Kong and the Bahamas before his family finally settled down in Ontario, Canada. At present, Rota resides in Los Angeles, California.
His father was a worldwide cooking sensation, and Rota himself devoted several years working in the culinary industry of London, New York and Toronto. For his cooking prowess, Toronto Life Magazine once deemed Rota as The Best Maitre d’ in the City.
At the age of 30, he decided to focus his energy on becoming an actor, and was quickly cast in the Canadian drama series, Street Legal and in the independent film, Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. Following his initial exposure to acting, Rota co-created, directed and hosted the “Great Canadian Food Show.” The series ran for a total of five seasons, received a James Beard Award nomination for Excellence in Culinary Journalism and earned Rota a 2001 Gemini Award for Best Host. His additional acting credits in Canada include At the Hotel, Horsie’s Retreat, I Am an Apartment Building, The Last Hit and Little Mosque on the Prairie.
In America, Rota first became popular for his portrayals of Mick Schtoppel, Mr. Jones and Martin Henderson on the USA Network’s hit crime series, Le Femme Nikita. Moreover, he has been seen in episodes of hit shows like Queer As Folk, A Nero Wolfe Mystery, Veritas Quest, Relic Hunter, The Boondock Saints and Doc. He was also in the romantic comedy, Cake, where he shared the big screen with American actors Heather Graham, Sandra Oh, Taye Diggs and Sarah Chalke.
At present, Rota is busy working on his role on the hit television drama series, 24. He has told fans of the show he is “that guy who comes to L.A. and gets very lucky very fast and, as a result, 30,000 people think they can do it, too.”
