Cue one more familiar face in the upcoming season of 24: Gregory Itzin is confirmed to return to the show's eighth season as crazed former president Charles Logan.

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that Itzin, who currently holds a recurring role in the CBS drama The Mentalist, will return for a multi-episode arc at the tail-end of the upcoming season, which begins January 17.  The former president will return when the current president, Allison Taylor, reluctantly enlists him for help in an escalating diplomatic crisis.

The opportunity to see Itzin and Emmy winner Cherry Jones together, according to executive producer Howard Jones, was "simply too compelling to pass up."

"I did everything I could not to kill him," fellow exec producer Jon Cassar added, referring to Itzin's season 6 exit, when he was stabbed by his former wife.  "I wanted to give us the [option] to potentially bring him back."

And bring him back they did.
