Howard Gordon, executive producer of FOX's
24, has announced that the producers will be implementing various carbon emission reduction techniques for the production of the show's seventh season.
Such techniques include using biodiesel fuels to power generators and production vehicles, buying all its energy from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power via renewable power sources like wind, solar and water, rewiring the set stage to use electric rather than diesel-generated power and converting gasoline-powered trucks and cars to low-emission hybrid vehicles.

Thank you! Sounds like the show will be beter than ever - a few viewers are obviously afraid of change or ...
"We care deeply about this issue at
24, and we wanted to do our own small part to be part of the solution," Gordon explained. "We looked at how we produce the show, and realised that there were some substantive changes we could implement which would make a real difference."
Gordon is also hoping that by taking such environment-friendly measures,
24's audience will be inspired to come up with their own ways to stem global warming.
“We think this will be the beginning of a conversation with our millions of viewers that will hopefully inspire them to take action around the world,” he said.
The production team of
24 is hoping to save enough energy and lessen carbon emissions throughout the seventh season. FOX Entertainment chair Peter Liguori told reporters at the show's TCA summer press tour session that
24 will become the first Los-Angeles based “carbon neutral” series.
Aside from the implementation of carbon emission reduction techniques, the show's star,
Kiefer Sutherland, has signed on to appear in several Public Service Announcements to talk about the value of energy conservation and raise awareness about climate change.
The seventh season of
24 will premiere on FOX in January 2008. According to writer and executive producer Michael Loceff, the new season will not only be more personal than the previous ones, but will also feature smaller and more intense storylines for the characters, including Jack Bauer. Additionally, the new season will feature the first female president, Alison Taylor, to be played by Cherry Jones.
