Wayne Palmer

DB Woodside as Wayne Palmer

President Wayne Palmer is portrayed by D.B. Woodside on the series, 24. Wayne was previously the Chief of Staff to his brother and deceased President David Palmer. He also served in the US Marine Corps, but did not get the opportunity to participate in combat.

After graduating from high school, Wayne enrolled at Stanford University on a baseball scholarship. While he was completing his studies in Political Science, Wayne also spent his time on the baseball field as the school team’s pitcher. For his post-graduate studies, he attended Yale Law School, from where he eventually obtained his Juris Doctor. When he was discharged from the Marine Corps, he gained employment at the Anderson & Siebertz law firm, and then moved on to work for Milliken Enterprises, where he held the position of COO. He had an affair with the wife of Alan Milliken, owner of the Milliken Enterprises.

Wayne was appointed Chief of Staff as the replacement of Mike Novick. He himself came close to losing the position after Alan, upon finding out about the affair, asked then President David Palmer to remove Wayne. However, David instead tried to blackmail Alan, but David’s ex-wife, Sherry, failed to get significant information. However, while Sherry was in the process of getting information, Alan had a heart attack, and she, along with Julie, prevented him from getting his medication. Wayne retrieved evidence that linked Sherry to the murder, but Julie ultimately murdered Sherry and then killed herself.

Later on, as Wayne was helping his brother write his memoirs, David was fatally wounded on the neck by a sniper. All eyes were on Jack Bauer, but Wayne helped to clear Jack’s name by the end of Day 5. Almost two years later, Wayne became President of the United States, and using his power, successfully freed Jack from being held hostage by the Chinese government.
