Jude Ciccolella as Mike Novick
Mike Novick, on the hit series
24, is portrayed by Jude Ciccolella. Mike is the White House Chief of Staff who was also the senior advisor to deceased President David Palmer during his senate run.
As an advisor to then Senator David Palmer, he acted in total opposition to David. Mike made decisions with utmost care and consideration for the possible consequences of his actions. When David learned that his son Keith had committed murder, he started his own investigation and found that there were people that did not want the news to come out, and his concern grew deeper when Keith’s therapist, who knew about the murder, was killed in a fire. Mike was quick to point out that they had no evidence to suggest that there was any foul play involved in the therapist’s death, and eventually David decided to make his son’s crime known to the public.
Although Mike’s loyalty to David was evidenced by the support he gave David all the way to his presidency, he later went against David’s presidential decision to cease the attacks on the supposed terrorist countries. Staying true to his nature, he greatly opposed David because he felt that the suspension of the attacks was based on weak evidence. As a result, Mike went behind David’s back and collaborated with Vice-President Jim Prescott to remove David from office using the 25th Amendment. Novick later found out that he had actually been manipulated, and so he tasked Ryan Chappelle to help CTU Agent Jack Bauer find more proof that the attacks were unjustified. Despite having changed his course of action, David could not bring himself to forgive Mike, and therefore, relieved Mike of his duties as his Chief of Staff.
Mike returned to office during President John Keeler’s administration. For the second time, he was able to convince the cabinet to use the 25th Amendment, causing John the presidency and making Charles Logan the new president. When Charles proved to be inefficient, Mike suggested that they bring in David as his new advisor. With David back in the White House, Mike got the opportunity to work closely with David again, and together they not only contributed to averting the missile crisis, but also saved Jack’s life.
He remained in Charles administration until Day 5, and helped in getting Charles arrested when he found out that not only was Charles the one behind David and Michelle Dessler’s deaths, he was also responsible for the series of nerve gas attacks that killed civilians and CTU agents alike.
