Charles Logan

Gregory Itzin as Charles Logan

Charles Logan is played by Gregory Itzin in the television series, 24. Charles first entered into politics as the Representative of Santa Barbara in the California State Legislature. He then went on to become the Lieutenant Governor of California, and eventually found himself taking on the United States Vice Presidency. Charles also held previous occupations that were outside of the government, which include being the Director of Pacific Nuclear Energy and the Vice President (and after some time, the CEO) of Western Energy Coal & Reserve.

A graduate of Princeton University with a degree in History, Charles often turned to his wife, Martha, for advice, especially when he was still in Congress as the U.S. Representative of Washington, D.C. Moreover, he has been overly dependent on the suggestions of his numerous political advisors and has been known to panic when he feels that the advice he is getting is insufficient.

During Day 4, Charles replaced John Keeler as the President of the United States after a stealth fighter hired by terrorist Habib Marwan managed to shoot down Air Force One with a missile. Although John survived the crash, his injuries rendered him incapable of continuing the Presidency. Soon after Charles’ became the new President (as provided by the 25th Amendment), he learned from Mike Novick, one of his senior advisors, that Habib had acquired many of the country’s nuclear arsenal. Because Charles found it difficult to come up with a definite plan of action, CTU Agent Jack Bauer decided to take matters into his own hands. Jack took Joe Prado, an American who had been working with Habib, and tortured him into telling CTU- Los Angeles the current location of Habib. Jack’s actions greatly angered Charles, and he immediately ordered the arrest of Jack Bauer. Charles’ order disrupted Jack’s pursuit of Habib, consequently giving the terrorist a chance to escape.

Habib later killed himself to avoid being captured, and it was revealed on Day 5 that Charles Logan was behind the murders of former President David Palmer and Michelle Dessler. His wife, Martha, had voiced out her suspicions about the deaths of Palmer and Dessler, but Charles was quick to dismiss her claims as a result of her bout with a mental illness. However, after realizing that Martha already had too much information, Charles was compelled to confess his actions to Martha, which led to the demise of their relationship. Later in the day, Martha, together with Jack, implicated Charles with a recorded version of his confession.
