24: Previewing Episode 8.05 "Day 8: 8:00PM-9:00PM"
Four hours into day 8 of 24, Anil Kapoor is playing with gravitas like there's no tomorrow, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is still trying to keep up. I know I said he's doing fine after the premiere last week. But after an extra two hours (not to mention his efforts to save President Hassan from a bomb) it just doesn't feel right. At least not yet.

Apart from the threats to the peace process and all the personal baggage it threatens to reveal, though, there's one thing that's got me spinning: an evil Renee Walker!

I mean, we all know Jack Bauer is capable of doing some pretty nasty things, which led us to all this talk of torture in actual war fronts. And yet he's visibly shocked to see his former colleague saw off someone's hand. Not that she had to do it. Seems like someone just flicked a switch on her and she suddenly went, "let's play saw-off-your-hand, it's gonna be fun!"

And so, in the middle of an undercover operation, Jack has to work with a time bomb. Understandably she's still reeling from Moss' murder last season, but the outlet's quite complizated-crazy. Crazier, considering that tonight, they'll explore even riskier leads, hopefully closer to Farhad's involvement.

Elsewhere in New York, the Dana-is-Jenny story continues to drag on. We still have that to deal with, unfortunately. Sooner, though, she'll get really tense and her colleagues will notice something when she just leaves her station to talk to someone on the phone, and leave in tears. Come on, Cole, take notice!

But what if Dana's problems has a connection with the bigger crisis? Oh, that's complicated-craziest. 24 returns tonight from 9pm on Fox--and you'll spot Callum Keith Rennie tonight, too. He's with the bad guys, it seems.
