24: Maryland Man Pretends to Be Jack Bauer, Pleads Guilty to DUI

There are some news items that defy explanation.  I can't really wrap my head around this recent piece of news out of Maryland.  Although it doesn't directly involve the FOX drama 24 or Kiefer Sutherland, it is definitely worth your time if you happen to be a 24 fan.  The best part of this news item (at least to me) is the lack of details.  We don't know why this drunken buffoon did what he did – we just now it happened and it's sad, disturbing, unfathomable and (I'm sorry) kind of funny.

Read on for the tale of the drunk, Jack Bauer-impersonating, terrorist hunter.

According to FOX 5 News in Washington, D.C., 23 year old student Edgar Sullivan of Pennsylvania has received probation after pleading guilty to drunk driving and apologizing to a Maryland court.  Sullivan, some time last year, repeatedly rammed a van owned by a man named Marlon Cantoral, and then chased Marlon into a prison building.

As this was happening, Sullivan reportedly kept yelling that Cantoral was a terrorist.  “He's a terrorist! He's a terrorist!” said Sullivan.  According to the police reports, Sullivan also claimed that his name was Jack Bauer and that he worked for the FBI and the Secret Service.  As part of his apology to the court last week, Sullivan claimed he felt awful for what had happened, but remembered none of it – he was too drunk.

Now, I've seen a lot of college students do crazy things while drunk, but pretend to be Jack Bauer is not one of them.  What was this kid thinking?  He was drunk, so he decided to pretend to be Jack Bauer and started driving around looking for terrorists?  How is this not grounds for institutionalization?

Here's the full story if you'd like to try and make any sense of it.

Have you ever pretended to be Jack Bauer?
