Kiefer Sutherland, star of 24 and portrayer of all-time bad ass Jack Bauer, was arrested for DUI early Tuesday morning.  The actor was attending the FOX Fall TV Eco-Casino Party in West Hollywood at trendy night club Area.  Around 1:30am, Sutherland left the party and made an illegal U-turn.  The police stopped him and administered a field sobriety test, finding that the 24 actor was at roughly twice the legal limit in alcohol.   He was arrested and spent some time in jail prior to posting bail and being released.


This is the second DUI for Kiefer in in the last few years, which may turn out to be significant, because in the state of California if you are convicted of two DUIs in a five year span, you are automatically forced to serve at least five days in jail.  We'll see if Kiefer pleads not guilty to this latest charge, but if he doesn't, his five days in jaiul could wreak havoc upon the 24 shooting schedule.

OK, taking off the reporter cap for a second, I have to discuss something.  I was at this FOX party where Kiefer Sutherland got his drink on.  We were attending the FOX Fall TV press junket and one of the nice perks was an invitation to this Fall Eco-Casino party.  I'll be doing a full write-up soon (there was serious star-stalking going on that resulted in many a picture), but for now, let's discuss my encounter with Kiefer.

He arrived late and was immediately surrounded by people.  I managed to weasel my way in for a picture, somehow, and Sutherland was nothing but cordial.  He didn't appear to enjoy the attention, but he was a good sport.  The interesting thing about the whole situation is that Kiefer insists on driving to FOX events, apparently.  FOX arranges for transportation, yet Kiefer drove himself.  Bad idea, obviously.  

But, there's nothing bad I can say about Sutherland.  He didn't appear at all drunk when I saw him, but you never know.
