Ten Memorable Sights from the Comic-Con Exhibition Hall
Share This Share this
The exhibition hall at the San Diego Comic-Con is absolutely massive, and it's constantly jam-packed with countless throngs of people.  It makes up the bulk of the convention center's first floor, and it's the place where thousands of exhibitors set up booths to promote themselves, sell merchandise and hand out free swag.  Some of the booths are run by major studios like Warner Brothers and Paramount, others are run by comic book companies like DC and Marvel, and hundreds more represent tiny mom and pop comic book stores that offer a few hard to find graphic novels.  It easily takes a half an hour to walk from one end of the hall to the other, partially due to the claustrophobia-inducing crowds, but also because the hall spans over 460,000 square feet.

While walking around the floor this past weekend I dared to stop for a few moments and take some photos, despite the fact that I could have been crushed to death by bustling crowds.  I found ten sights that brought great joy to my inner nerd.  Read on to check them out.

10.  The Dharma Initiative Booth

The Dharma Initiative may seem like a relic from the past, but they were out in force to recruit people for their shady organization.  Comic-Con attendees could take eligibility tests to determine if they were Dharma-worthy, which you can now take for yourself over at DharmaWantsYou.com.

9.  The Life-Size Hulk

Just what size would the Hulk be in real life, anyway?  Probably about this big.

8.  Jabba the Hutt

Jabba may not have brought Princess Leia in a gold bikini with him, but there were numerous women at the convention that had the outfit ready to go.  The fact that Jabba even has his favorite snack in hand makes me smile.

7.  The Unicorn from Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Harold & Kumar fans were given the chance to act like Neil Patrick Harris for a few moments and pose with the unicorn from the recent sequel.  Mind-altering substances not included.

6.  The Nerd Herd car from Chuck

The only thing cooler than seeing the Nerd Herd car in person would be winning one of your very own.  A contest allowed one lucky fan to do just that.  Zachary Levi announced the winner's name at the Chuck panel, and no, unfortunately it wasn't me.

5.  Lego Batman and Robin

To promote the upcoming Lego Batman video game, some very patient people built the Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder entirely out of Legos.

4.  Lego Indiana Jones

The recent movie may have left something to be desired, but this Lego Indy with crystal skull in hand is pretty frakkin' awesome.

3.  Castle Grayskull

I wonder if Not-So-Skeletal Skeletor has managed to conquer this place yet.

2.  The TARDIS from Doctor Who

Unfortunately, this replica of the TARDIS wasn't as large as it is on Doctor Who.  Then again, it's probably much bigger on the inside.

1.  Model of the Cloverfield Monster

As a big fan of Cloverfield, I audibly gasped with delight and ran over to this miniature replica the instant I saw it.  I would do just about anything to have this as the centerpiece for my dinner table at home, but unfortunately it was too big to smuggle out of the convention center.
