Originally aired on Tuesday, 07/11/2006 Written by BuddyTV Staff Columnist Episode Rating: *** (3 stars out of 5) Episode Overview: The LAST COMIC STANDING comics once again get the chance to turn their comedic chops on one another as the group heads to the Friars Club for a roast of one of their own. A surprising turn of events thins their ranks even more quickly than anticipated.

Episode Highlights:
  • The group roasts Gabriel Iglesias in front of a celebrity comic panel at the Friars Club.
  • Gabriel continues his streak of being in the spotlight when his contraband Blackberry is discovered.
  • Once again, the nominations are tied, so the head-to-head is decided by votes alone and no one additional is selected to challenge.
Recap: The two winners of last week's Last Comic Standing head-to-head - Chris Porter and Michelle Balan - return to the Queen Mary. They both hope their performance will make the others less likely to vote against them this week, but for different reasons: Chris, due to his status as audience favorite, and Michelle, because this is the second time she's returned from the Head-to-Head safe. Between events, the comics take their lone chance - only once every other day - to use the house phone to connect with loved ones back home. Ty Barnett, who's missing his daughter's birthday to be here, and Gabriel, who misses his girlfriend, both seem especially put out by the Last Comic Standing communication restrictions. Later, host Anthony Clark greets the group and lets them know their next challenge will be a roast of one of their own. (Why does Anthony Clark always sound freshly drunk? And why do none of the comics give him any flack about it?) Each comic will vote for the roastee, and each will have to roast him or her. Unlike other challenges, however, there will be no immunity for the winner of this one. The comics vote, and Gabriel is selected as the roastee. As everyone prepares for the evening, Josh Blue points out Gabriel's selection was obvious because "fat jokes" are easy. That night at the Friars Club, we meet the celebrity judges - Phyllis Diller, Gilbert Gottfried, and the winner of the last Last Comic Standing, Alonzo Boden - and the celebrity (?) host, Jim Norton. The roast gets under way, and everyone seems to do passably well, with the exception of newbie Kristin Key, who seems to flop. Hard. Gabriel takes it all in stride and gives back pretty well when it's his turn to roast the roasters. The judges pick Chris as the best performer of the night, and his prize is a pretty fantastic one from a career perspective: he receives a one-year membership to the Friars Club and will be flown to Vegas to perform with Louie Anderson. (Last Comic Standing educates as well as entertains: I learned tonight that both Phyllis Diller and Louie Anderson are still alive. I was unaware.) Back on the boat, there's some pre-vote drama! Gabriel is caught with a Blackberry which he has been using to communicate with his woman! He also sneaks out in the middle of the night to use the phone! These actions are in direct violation of his contract and so the Executive Producers show up the next day and kick him off the show. There's a surprisingly apologetic undertone to the producers' spiel, which surprises me. He broke the rules, why are they sorry about it? The other comics assemble in the boiler room to both vote and learn of Gabriel's fate. His absence means that this head-to-head vote will ultimately be deciding the final five. The votes are cast, and once again, there is a multi-way tie: Rebecca Corry, Kristin and Ty all receive two votes each and must perform and win to proceed. That night, they are all nervous, but all seem equally polished in their performances. Afterwards, as they are assembled to hear the results, one can see the raw hunger for the win in each of their faces. Ty, especially, looks like he's facing his executioner, but his worry was for naught. With 69% of the vote, he is the winner, and he, along with Chris Porter, Josh Blue, Roz and Michelle Balan, will be the final five competing for America's vote next week!
