Episode Overview: John is feeling frisky for Janelle. The group prepares for the Key West "Fantasy Fest" (a Mardi Gras-style bacchanalia) but there are, once again, those dark clouds on the horizon - literally!
Episode Highlights:
- The house plans a Mystic Tan float to participate in the Key West "Fantasy Fest" parade.
- John is flirty and forward with Janelle - but he goes a little too far.
- Hurricane Wilma is looming and looks ready to land on "Fantasy Fest" weekend.
The VP of Mystic Tan has a meeting with the guys to plan the store's participation in "Fantasy Fest." The guys brainstorm on plans for a parade float, and John Devenanzio says he wants it to be a "spectacle."
John, Janelle Casanave and Zach Mann head over to a local costume shop to look for outfits for the Fest. Intercut with the footage of them playing around in the store is interview footage, where Janelle calls John "obnoxious...but fun," and John says that if he is to have a hook-up in the house, it would be with Janelle.
Later, the three head to a seafood restaurant, where John plies Janelle with oysters then playfully monitors her resulting level of friskiness. She keeps a good humor but puts the kibosh on his flirting.
The next day, John and Tyler Duckworth head out to get materials for the float. John, who really wants to contribute to the house by going all out on the float, says that he's in charge of the construction and theme, and Tyler will handle the "glitter" and "flowers." Their plan is to create a Midsummer's Night theme around a faux tanning both. After some chaos at Home Depot (the large Styrofoam sheets Tyler bought nearly fly off in the strong wind), they both start work on their respective parts. Tyler loves the irony that Mr. Straight John is working on the "gayest float ever."
Meanwhile, the gang is hearing/reading about the possible impending Hurricane Wilma and begin to think about evacuation.
John, Janelle and Zach head off to the gym to work out and John continues with his forward but good-natured comments to Janelle. She's still not really flirting back, but manages to find a friendly neutral ground between being a total wet blanket and encouraging his behavior.
Svetlana Shusterman returns. She left the Key last week to be with her boyfriend while his father died of cancer. As Jose Tapia drives her home, she tells him that it was an incredibly painful visit, but she and Martin are closer than ever for going through it together.
That night, the group heads out to an out-of-the-way waterfront restaurant that's having a last-minute party to use up seafood before Hurricane Wilma arrives. After eating and drinking, Tyler, John and Janelle decide to take a dip in the ocean. Tyler and John bare all, but Janelle stays in her underwear. At least she tries to - until John playfully removes her top.
Well, playfully to him, but Janelle is not happy. She dresses and they all return to the house. She and John sit down to talk - he is truly contrite and says he thought they were playing and laughing and he just got carried away. Janelle accepts his apology - he really does seem sincere, and for all his boorishness, it's hard to seem him as a predator. But it's still a major line to cross, and Janelle's hands, playing nervously in her hair, belie her composure: it's going to take a while before she feels comfortable with him again.
Soon though, worries about Hurricane Wilma supersede any household drama. They try to figure out if they will need to leave or if they can stay. John is especially bummed that the storm will interfere with "Fantasy Fest." The general consensus seems to be to head into Miami if it gets bad and wait it out.
We'll have to wait to see! Tune in next week.
