Film and stage actress Annabella Sciorra was born on March 29, 1964. Born in Wethersfield, Connecticut to parents who are of Cuban, Italian and French descent, she began her acting lessons when she was a teenager. When she turned 20, Annabella formed The Brass Ring Theatre Company. She first gained prominence in her role in the Spike Lee film Jungle Fever. Her other film credits include What May Dreams May Come and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
Perhaps one of Sciorra’s more notable roles is that in Jungle Fever opposite Wesley Snipes in Spike Lee’s story of a young mixed-race relationship. Following Jungle Fever, she starred in the drama thriller The Hand that Rocks the Cradle after Mr. Wonderful with Matt Dillon. This was followed by Romeo is Bleeding, opposite Gary Oldman, The Addition by renowned direct Abel Ferrara, who worked with her again in The Funeral a period piece with Christopher Walken.
Sciorra was well-received for her role as the estranged wife of a police officer in a small New Jersey town on Copland, with Robert DeNiro and Sylvester Stallone. Her other screen credits include Mr. Jealousy with Eric Stoltz, What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding, Jr, Italian film Domenica which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, Underworld with Joe Mantegna and Dennis Leary, The Innocent Sleep, The Night We Never Met, The Hard Way, and Internal Affairs.
Meanwhile, Sciorra received an Emmy Award nomination for her role Gloria Trillo on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Soprahnos. As for television, she appeared in the CBS original film Jenifer. Her other small screen credits include Oz, New York Undercover for Fox, Sunshine Boys for ABC, Homicide for NBC, and Law and Order for NBC.
