Born in Topanga, California on March 26, 1976, Amy Smart is an American actress and former fashion model best known for role in the 2006 CBS series Smith. Her mother was a museum worker, while her father was a salesperson. Smart was inspired by her friend Vinessa Shaw to take up ballet, which she studied for ten years. When she was 16, she enrolled in acting classes. Her career as a fashion model began afterwards, when she traveled to Italy, Tahiti, France and Mexico.
In 1996, Amy Smart landed a role in the film adaptation of the John Updike story A & P. She next had a minor role in the television movie Seduced by Madness: The Diane Borchardt Story. This was followed by portraying the character Jenny in director Martin Kunert’s film Campfire Tales. She was then cast in 1997’s Starship Troopers opposite Denise Richards. She appeared in Starstruck and Strangeland, before landing the role of Jules Harbor in Varsity Blues in 1999. She has also been noted for playing the girlfriend of Scott Foley’s character in the series Felicity. Most of her films were catered to a teenage audience. Some of her these were 2000’s Road Trip and 2004’s The Butterfly Effect.
Smart also appeared in a guest role on the series Scrubs, and was recognized for her performance in Starsky & Hutch. For this, she was nominated at the MTV Movie Awards for Best Kiss. In 2005, she starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in the romantic comedy Just Friends. The next year, she appeared in Crank, and has voiced a number of characters on Seth Green’s Robot Chicken. She has appeared on other films like 2008’s Mirrors and Life in Flight. She is also the spokesperson for the Heal the Bay organization and has worked with the Humane Society. In 2004, she was named one of Organic Style magazine’s “Women with Organic Style.”
