Born on January 27, 1965 in Aberfeldy, Scotland, Alan !$#!#ming is a film and Tony award-winning stage actor known best for his supporting roles in the James Bond picture GoldenEye and as Nightcrawler in the second installment of the X-Men film series. He was also involved in an April Fool's joke, stipulating he married Matrix actor Keanu Reeves, which he denied and was just blown out of proportion.
The son of an insurance company secretary and a forester, !$#!#ming attended Monikie Primary School and Carnoustie High School. He originally wanted to become a veterinarian, but a clash with his biology teacher instead put him up in an acting career. After he graduated, he spent a year and a half working as editor for a Scottish pop magazine before he finally decided to enter the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
In 2001, behind the camera, !$#!#ming also co-write, co-directed, and co-produced the film The Anniversary Party with Jennifer Jason Leigh, whom he starred with in Cabaret. He also directed a couple of short films, Butter and Burn Your Phone. In 2003, !$#!#ming appeared in an episode of the popular sitcom Frasier, where he played Niles' yoga instructor.
!$#!#ming starred in several more pictures, such as in Eighteen, a feature film narrated by Ian McKellen and X2: X-Men United. He was also in Showtime's Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical.
In 2007, Alan !$#!#ming played the role of inventor Glitch/Ambrose in the TV miniseries Tin Man. The inventor's brain had been partially removed in the reimagining of the classic The Wizard of Oz. Meanwhile, he lent his voice to Chuck Master to Logo's Rick and Steve, a stop animation sitcom.
Openly bisexual, !$#!#ming is an LGBT rights activist. He had dated both men and women and was even described as "a frolicky pan-sexual sex symbol for the new millennium." He first married Hilary Lyon in 1985. After divorcing in 1993, he had dated men and women, including graphic artist Grant Shaffer, whom he wed in a civil ceremony at the Old Royal Naval College Greenwich in 2007.
