Earlier today, CBS announced the Fall launch dates for their 2008-2009 television season schedule. Nothing totally out of the ordinary in CBS's announcement, and the schedule has not been altered from the one presented during their up-fronts. Survivor: Gabon, the first edition of the reality series to be shot entirely in HD, will premiere a week earlier (on Thursday, September 18) than the bulk of the CBS schedule. Some shows, including CSI and Ghost Whisperer, will return later than usual to accommodate the Presidential Debates. Below you will find the full list of premiere dates for CBS's prime-time slate.

Sometimes, life is a mystery. The 34th Annual Saturn Awards were held earlier this week in Los Angeles. The Saturn Awards honor the very best in fantasy and science fiction film and television as voted on by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. This week's awards honored the very best of 2007 and, not surprisingly, Lost cleaned up the television category. What is surprising (well, earth-shattering, really) is that Jennifer Love-Hewitt won the Best Television Actress category for her work on Ghost Whisperer. She beat out Evangeline Lilly from Lost, Lena Headey from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Holly Hunter from Saving Grace, Kyra Sedgwick from The Closer and Anna Friel from Pushing Daisies. Those other actresses are, unequivocally, better at acting than Love-Hewitt. So, how did she win? I have my theories (plus the results from the Awards ceremony).

When Ghost Whisperer returns for a fourth season this coming fall, fans will see less of Jay Mohr, who has been with the thriller drama series as Professor Rick Payne since the beginning of season 2. That's because the 37-year-old actor will soon be departing Ghost Whisperer to star in his own show, Project Gary, an upcoming sitcom where he plays a father who is struggling with life after divorce.
Nevertheless, producers of Ghost Whisperer have already found a substitute to fill the void. According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Jamie Kennedy has signed on to appear on the CBS drama as a regular cast member.

As you have already heard, a large fire broke out this weekend at the Universal Studios theme park in Los Angeles, taking with it several landmarks. The fire, which was reportedly the size of two city blocks at one point, engulfed the New York streetscape set, home to such blockbuster hits such as Spider Man 2 and Transformers. On top of that, the fire claimed the iconic Courtyard Square set, which is currently being used as a standing set for CBS' Ghost Whisperer.
The outdoor set, which imitates a town square with a tall clock tower in the middle, has been featured in hundreds of movies over the past several decades. It is best known as the stage of the iconic lightning-strike scene in the film Back to the Future.
