Liam Court (Matt Lanter) is the resident bad boy at West Beverly High on "90210." He first appears as a bartender at the hotel where Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) is staying. She sends him a bottle of champagne to his house with a note saying to meet her. His mom receives the gift, discovering that her underage son had been working as a bartender instead of attending school. Liam is very angry that he has been found out and despises being sent back to school.
Naomi becomes infatuated with Liam and while he pretends to not care about her, they end up developing a "friends with benefits" relationship. Determined to prove his bad boy status to her, he takes her street racing with him, but this does not scare her off as he had thought it might.
At the end of Season 1, Liam asks Naomi to the prom. While he does have feelings for her, part of the reason he decides to go to the prom is because his parents and guidance counselor are on his case about his grades and lack of school participation. They even threaten him with boarding school. Naomi doesn't know if he actually cares about her or if he just asked her to prom to make his parents happy. At a post-prom party, Liam discusses the situation with Jen Clark (Sara Foster), who, unbeknownst to Liam, is Naomi's sister and rival. Jen seduces him, but frames Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) by stealing her sweater and leaving it in the room. Naomi believes that Annie slept with Liam and is infuriated, refusing to speak to Liam and putting Annie on her personal blacklist. At the end of the season, Liam is taken away by escorts to a boot camp program.
Season 2 finds Liam back in town and desperate to reach Naomi and get her to see that her sister is evil and manipulative. During this quest, he and Ivy Sullivan (Gillian Zinser), a fellow surfer, become friends. While Ivy tries to help him, she develops romantic feelings for Liam. The two do kiss and have a brief romantic connection, but when Ivy realizes he is still in love with Naomi, she decides to step back.
Naomi gives Liam another chance just as his friendship with Annie is starting to produce some sparks. Liam even moves in with Naomi after deciding to leave home when he witnesses his stepfather kissing another woman. However, he leaves Naomi when he discovers that she lied about being sexually harassed by her teacher, Miles Cannon (Hal Ozsan). Although Annie is now falling for Liam, she wants to be a good friend to Naomi and convinces Liam to go back to her. Liam eventually breaks up with Naomi for Annie when he realizes that Annie is a better listener and cares more about him. Their relationship ends quickly when Annie dumps him after he takes her for a ride on a boat that she didn't know was stolen.
In Season 3, Annie starts dating a college boy, Charlie Selby (Evan Ross), who turns out to be Liam's estranged half-brother. Annie tries to get them to reconcile, but Liam is not interested. In the most recent episodes, Annie is starting to realize that she still has feelings for Liam. Liam gets hurt and Annie is left to care for him. He then admits to her that he loves her and they kiss.
Trouble seems to follow Liam wherever he goes. Though he is most definitely a "bad boy," he does have a good heart. Time will tell how he sorts out his changing romances and family drama.
