Brian "Whitey" Durham (Barry Corbin) was the basketball coach for the Tree Hill Ravens at Tree Hill High. He was featured in the first four seasons of "One Tree Hill" as the high school basketball coach before leaving to coach a college team and appeared less often in the fifth and sixth seasons. Half-brothers Nathan (James Lafferty) and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) Scott were students on his high school team.

When Whitey coached college basketball, Nathan was on the team and Lucas was the assistant coach. He often did not get along with their father, Dan Scott (Paul Johansson). Whitey was considered a mentor not only to the students at the high school, but also to their parents and the other adults residing in the area. He later retired from his college coaching position.
