Karen Roe (Moira Kelly) is a single mother, who gave birth to her son Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) when she was only eighteen. She was abandoned by Lucas' father, Daniel Scott (Paul Johansson) who chose a relationship with Deborah Lee (Barbara Alyn Woods) over her.

Karen raised Lucas by herself with help from Keith Scott (Craig Scheffer), Dan's kind brother who was in love with her. Their relationship was put to the test when he almost killed Lucas in a car accident. Eventually she gets engaged to Keith who is murdered by his brother. It is revealed that Karen was pregnant with Keith's child, and she gives birth to Lilly Roe Scott (Mary Kate Englehardt). She later marries Andy Hargrove (Kieren Hutchison) and travels the world with him.
