Danielle Van De Kamp (Joy Lauren) is the daughter of Bree (Marcia Cross) and the late Rex Van De Kamp (Steven Culp). Danielle is a self-serving girl who seems to be constantly surrounded by drama. Tensions run high between Danielle and her mother, with the two conspiring against each other.

In earlier seasons of "Desperate Housewives," Danielle is a self-proclaimed abstinent who grows more and more promiscuous, eventually sleeping with her history teacher. In Season 3, she becomes pregnant by Edie Britt's (Nicollette Sheridan) nephew Austin McCann (Josh Henderson). Bree ships Danielle off to a convent to have the baby and pretends that she is pregnant herself to cover it up. Danielle runs away from the convent and returns home after a short stay with her grandmother. In the episode "Now I know, Don't Be Scared", Danielle attends a neighborhood Halloween party dressed as Bree. Her water breaks and she ends up delivering the baby at the party. She decides to give the baby to Bree and then moves to Miami to attend college. Five years later, she returns to take her son away, leaving Bree devastated.
