Tommy Walker

Played by Balthazar Getty

Tommy Walker (Balthazar Getty) is the third child and eldest son of Nora Walker (Sally Field) and the late William Walker (Tom Skerritt) on the TV show "Brothers and Sisters". At the start of the show, Tommy was married to Julia Walker (Sarah Jane Morris) and has spent years working with his father and uncle, Saul Holden (Ron Rifkin) at the family firm, Ojai Foods. After the death of his father, Tommy thought that he would be named as president of the company, but when the will was read, he was angry when his sister Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) was given the job. Initially they struggled to work together to stop the company from going bankrupt due to their father embezzling company funds. When they eventually found the missing money, they learned that their father had an adult daughter with his mistress.

When Tommy and Julia tried to have a baby, they discovered that he was infertile and considered using a sperm donor, however, Tommy was not happy with the idea of a stranger fathering his child. He initially asked his brother Kevin (Matthew Rhys) to be the donor, but Kevin is unsure at first. When the rest of the family finds out, his brother Justin (Dave Annable) offers to help, and both Kevin and Justin end up donating with neither wanting to know who the father is. Julia becomes pregnant and gives birth to twins, William II and Elizabeth. William II has kidney failure and his only hope is a transplant from his sister. This was risky for her and was not guaranteed to cure him. Tommy and Julia decided not to go ahead with the transplant and William II died soon afterwards. This sent Julia into a depression that led to her moving back to live with her parents. Tommy then had a brief affair with his office manager, Lena Branigan (Emily Rose) but broke it off because he didn't want to be like his father. After Julia moved back in with Tommy, she admitted that she had a one-night stand with a man and Tommy admitted to his affair with Lena. After Lena left town, the couple reconciled.

When his daughter, Elizabeth, was two years old, her liver started to fail and the only treatment was a transplant. Both Kevin and Justin tested for paternity and they found out that Kevin is the father. They completed the transplant process and Elizabeth was saved.

Tommy was becoming disillusioned with his role at Ojai Foods and his father's mistress, Holly Harper (Patricia Wettig), told him that William had planned to start a new company for Tommy to run, while Sarah ran Ojai Foods. Tommy decided to start a new company, Walker Landing, with Holly's help, and Sarah was mad that Tommy would work with their father's mistress. Later, when Tommy and Holly came up with a plan to save the struggling Ojai Foods, by merging it with Walker Landing, Tommy and Sarah became co-presidents and Holly, CEO.

Sarah left Ojai Foods and Tommy became increasingly frustrated with Holly's stranglehold over the company so he approached Saul to try and get Holly out. Saul didn't agree with Tommy's plan to manipulate a deal to swap shares for land, but Tommy continued with his plan and almost succeeded until the deception was discovered and Tommy was arrested. The charges were later dropped but Tommy fled, and when Julia told him about the charges being dropped he refused to return home as he wanted to find himself. This was the end of his marriage. Julia moved to Seattle and Tommy later followed so he could live near his daughter.

Memorable Quotes.

"You're here to help me fix this. Holly doesn't respect this company's history, she doesn't respect my position, my experience, nothing."

"The answer is no, you can't borrow my surfboard, no, I don't have any money to lend you and yes, girls still think you're cute. I'm kidding."
