Robert McCallister (Rob Lowe) from the ABC series "Brothers & Sisters" was a former Republican United States Senator representing the state of California. He first met his wife Kitty Walker (Calista Flockhart) in the first season of the show, when Kitty interviewed him on her talk show "Red, White & Blue." The pair started out a bit rocky as McCallister refused to help Walker's younger brother Justin (Dave Annable) from having to serve in Afghanistan. Rob was was on the show to address an infidelity scandal that he had become embroiled in. After Kitty's affair with her co-host sank "Red, White & Blue, " she began seeing Rob and he appointed her head of the Communications department for his Presidential campaign. Soon after, a radio host starts to blackmail him about inaccuracies in his military service, something that will dog him throughout the campaign.

The political disagreements in the Walker family made Rob's relationship with Kitty difficult, especially the objections of her brother Kevin (Matthew Rhys) to Rob's stance against gay marriage. Eventually, the two would come to uneasy terms with each other. Rob's Presidential campaign picked up steam, but became less viable after a number of scandals. Even though his chances were slim, he continued the race. When Kitty became pregnant, the couple quickly planned a wedding to avoid more scandal and aid in Rob's political ambitions. Unfortunately, Kitty miscarried the baby and on their wedding day, a blackmail plot threatened to cause problems. Intervention from unscrupulous political consultant Isaac Marshall (Danny Glover) helped nip the plot in the bud.

Robert's Presidential campaign finally sputtered to a halt, as his leading Republican opponent played dirty and eventually forced him to withdraw. He was offered the Vice Presidential nomination, but after a significant amount of soul-searching refused so he could spend more time with his family. His opponent lost in the 2008 election to Barack Obama. Rob stepped down from his Senate seat, and in a shocking turn his wife decides to pursue the office. She also develops Stage 4 lymphoma, and the tables are turned as Robert has to play the supportive spouse. Kitty's lymphoma goes into remission and Robert considers a run for Governor of California, but his heart condition begins to act up and he is taken to the hospital. After being discharged, his car is violently hit by a truck and he sustains a severe head wound, leaving him in a vegetative state. Kitty abandons her bid for the Senate seat to care for her husband.

In beginning of Season 5, Kitty finally says goodbye to Robert, shutting off his life support and letting him die with dignity. His influence can be felt across the entire Walker family and leaves a gaping hole in the show that will be difficult to fill.

"Didn't you almost divorce me for running for governor without talking to you?"

"You see these shoes? I bought them on the Internet. Sight unseen, never had a problem. I'm a very good judge of quality, Ms Walker, and of how things are going to fit."
