Justin Walker

Played by Dave Annable

Justin Walker (Dave Annable) exhibits the lead role in the television series "Brothers and Sisters". Justin is the youngest child of this somewhat odd and intriguing family and has always grown up as the "black sheep". Justin has constantly grown up with oddities and certain traumatic events which have each changed his life, these instances become the norm rather than the exception for him. From drug addiction to enlisting in the military and enduring somewhat severe battle wounds, Justin has had to deal with many constant obstacles in a seemingly constant pace of turmoil rather than normalcy, this helps the viewers capture the ability for people to see life as a whole and can bring about a lot of emotional reflections to those watching the program.

Justin's numerous traumatic events have led to multiple life threatening occurrences. The first traumatic event would have to be when poor Justin had to deal personally with the horrible events from September 11th, of 2001. This eventually let to Justin getting out of hand, and losing control, particularly with illegal drugs and painkillers. Of course this meant he could hardly hold a job, even as a bell-boy he struggled to stay on top of nearly everything. His fellow drug addict Fawn (Calista Flockhart) seems to hold him back from becoming a more stable, independent person, but he cherishes the friendship on a level that goes beyond the obvious fallacies inherent with her drug addicted personality and lifestyle. Justin creates a lot of raw emotion as he hurts the people around him, often getting looked down upon and shunned away by friends and family.

Eventually, Justin, not thinking clearly and with plenty of problems needing immediate attention, decides to enlist in the military. This was his way of retaliating for the terrorist attacks of September 11th, which contributed largely to his poor decision-making ability, and emotional distress. He felt this was one of the best ways to go considering no one on the home front was really helping matters or cared. His brother Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) was particularly dismissive of Justin in a fairly mean fashion, when he didn't want Justin to be a sperm donor for him even after his other brother denied his sperm. Kevin deemed that Justin was an emotionally disturbed, out of control young man, and saw great flaw in his reasoning due to drug abuse and emotional instability. The denial from Kevin really seemed to hit home with Justin.

Upon being in the military services, Justin gets relatively clean and makes a lot of progress with bettering himself. This new-found stability in his life is short-lived however, because Justin suffers a battle wound that is severe enough to send him home with an honorable discharge. Upon his return, he is completely sober as his progress and self-betterment impresses the people around him. Justin's final relapse comes when Nora Walker (Sally Field) convinces him he needs to take pain medication, bad move, he gets addicted yet again. The blame game starts with his sisters Norah and Sarah Walker (Raechel Griffiths), and Justin is stuck in the middle again.

So the question remains, will Justin snap out of it, for a second time, and come to terms with reality to gain some semblance of stability in his life? Or will Justin continue to struggle, even after all he has endured. What will be the most important thing in his life, is it drugs, or is it his family that he loves so much?
